DigitalLand Holdings Limited (GDSI Limited), the international affiliate of GDS Holdings Limited (GDSH), has recently secured a substantial $1 billion equity raise led by key US investors.
Here are six strategic highlights from this major development:
--> New Equity from US Investors
The Series B investment was spearheaded by new US investors, with notable contributions from Coatue Management and The Baupost Group. This influx underscores growing confidence in GDSI’s vision within the US investment landscape.
--> Significant Portfolio Expansion
GDSI is primed for growth, with a portfolio of 480 MW of data center capacity and an additional 590 MW set aside for future projects across Asia-Pacific regions, including Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Japan. This funding empowers GDSI to increase its total capacity to an impressive 1 GW.
--> Enhanced Operational Independence
Post-closing, GDSH will no longer consolidate GDSI’s financials or appoint the majority of its board. This change grants GDSI more autonomy, enabling it to strategically pursue its APAC expansion plans.
--> Focus on AI and Hyperscale Solutions
Positioned in a rapidly growing market, GDSI aims to address the surging demand for AI and hyperscale computing solutions. This capital boost supports GDSI’s capacity to develop infrastructure tailored to these high-performance requirements.
--> Valuation and Stake Ownership
GDSH retains a 37.6% equity stake in GDSI, with an implied valuation of approximately $1.3 billion. This reflects GDSH’s ongoing commitment while allowing GDSI the flexibility to scale independently.
--> Strengthened Competitive Edge in APAC
With substantial new funding, GDSI is well-equipped to compete for large-scale data center projects across Asia-Pacific, enhancing its standing in a region critical to AI and cloud infrastructure.
This strategic investment not only accelerates GDSI’s expansion but also reinforces its role as a vital infrastructure provider in the APAC data center landscape, meeting growing demands for digital transformation and AI-driven services.
